How to Prepare Yourself and Your House for a Hurricane
You’ll be bombarded with hurricane survival tips when one is stirred up and on its way but having things ready ahead of time is your best course of action.
1. Make a Hurricane Survival List
What do you need to survive if you are without electricity for an extended amount of time?
Your list should include water, non-perishable food, charcoal or propane for a grill, medications, extra batteries, candles, flashlights, first-aid kit, backup cellphone battery, moist wipes, battery-powered radio and anything you feel you can’t live without.
2. Fit Your Home with Shutters or Plywood
If you are in an area where you would be advised to evacuate in the event of a hurricane, it’s a good idea to have hurricane shutters or plywood cut to fit your windows.
Have these available before the threat of a storm. When the storm is coming, plywood sells out quickly and it’s too late to get shutters.
3. Fill the Car with Gas
Keep your car filled with gas in case you have to evacuate. The lines at the gas station can get pretty long when a mandatory evacuation is issued.
4. Get Emergency Supplies and Meds
After you make your list, make sure to get all the supplies you need including extras of any medications you take. Put everything in a waterproof bin for safekeeping.
5. Set Up a Safe Room
Is there a room or area of your house where you can go to stay safe from the storm? Store your supplies there along with extra pillows and blankets so you’ll be comfortable if you need to use it.
When you’re learning how to prepare for a storm, the idea of having a generator is sure to pop into your head. Check out the best of its kind right here at https://PoweredPortableSolar.com.
