Are you ready to bring on the hot summer magic?
We’re talking dancing under the twinkle lights, watching movies in your outdoor theatre, and hosting the barbecue to end all barbecues.
Before you can live your best summer life, you might want to consult a summer home maintenance checklist.
We’re talking one weekend of summer cleaning that will allow your home to swing open its doors and embrace the light. Let’s roll up our sleeves and get right to it.
1. Change Your Air Filters
Few things are better than lighting a few candles, lighting a fire, and snuggling under the blankets. Trouble is, all those candles have been clogging up our air filters.
In truth, we should be changing our filters every month. But, for those of us who lead busy lives, sometimes the best we can do is change them every season. The last thing any of us want to face is the prospect of air conditioning repair when we’re ready to turn down the heat.
2. Clean Your Barbecue
Make sure this summer essential is ready to burn and give your grill a thorough cleaning. If you have a gas grill, turn up the heat, close the lid, and let it rip for about a half an hour. Then, give it a moment to cool off and start scraping.
Wipe down the exterior surface with a gentle cloth. Make your grill the centerpiece. Clean any side shelves and see if you might need to invest in a new cleaning tool kit.
3. Style Your Patio or Porch
The best place to bite into those burgers and buns is a comfy back patio or porch. Nights under tiki torches and twinkle lights live on in the heart forever.
You don’t need to undertake an entire patio or porch overhaul. Rather, you can add delicate touches that will brighten up this living space.
Consider a few new throw pillows. Set out some candles in glass votives. Top off those tiki torches with oil so they’ll be ready to welcome all your friends and family.
4. Prep Your Garden
One of the best gardening secrets is to set a watering schedule. It’s unlikely we can devote an hour or two every day to our gardens.
Rather, you want to plan a schedule where your plants are well-watered on certain evenings and able to sustain the heat for the remaining days.
5. Powerwash and Window Wash
Rent a power washer or make an investment in one since it’s a seasonal thing of beauty. Make sure the exterior is up to snuff and then move to the interior.
Pull out your Windex and paper towels and make sure each window is glistening clean. Be sure to scrub the frames, too, and not just the glass.
