Vera Wang once referred to her bedroom as her sanctuary, and we’re sure that many of us feel the same way. But how do you get it to that point?
While many may have had the thought of giving their home on the whole a revamp, over the last year more and more have decided to take decisive action. Decorating has shot up due to spending more time than ever at home because of the global pandemic. One study showed that over 50% of people have or planned to redecorate in the UK alone.
Are you among the crowd? And is the thought of decorating a bedroom sour point that has got you hesitating?
Have no fear as we will now consider all you need to know to help you get the best bedroom for you.
Consider Your Space
No matter what ideas you have for your dream bedroom, it is vital to face your reality and think about your room size.
That cute bedside table or desk may be to die for, but if you try decorating a bedroom by squeezing them in it just won’t work.
Draw up a floor plan and use it to gain perspective about what it is you can do, rather than what it is you want. Your bed is a great place to start. Given its significance to the balance of your room take the time to consider exactly what kind you want when choosing a bed. For example, given the dimensions of your room perhaps Wilding wallbeds and other Murphy beds like them would be the best option to help you have the space you need.
Regardless of the amount you have, your goal should be to optimize how much space you have to walk around in your bedroom. Cramped environments only add feelings of discomfort, which should be considered the mortal enemy of any bedroom. So if you are going to add any furniture when decorating a bedroom always stop to consider, is it really necessary?
Choosing a Color Scheme
The design element that will have the biggest impact on your room is without a doubt the colors you decide to use. They can affect everything from your mood to how creative you are, so taking the time to think about which colors to place in the room that is often our innermost sanctuary should be seriously considered.
The room we sleep in should induce just that, so peaceful calming colors should are the best option. Subtle colors like earthy greens or a pastel blue are known to create a relaxing effect on the mind so anything along these lines is great for helping the mind to disconnect.
But does that mean that bolder colors are out of the question?
Not at all, but when decorating a bedroom, the best option may be for them to accent a room rather than be a base color. Think about getting complimentary cushions, or drapes that are designed to be a feature rather than making them the main dish your room is serving up.
Sure you want a scarlet red or equivalent striking color to be the base of your room? Then consider using a toned-down version or the color in question or put it on an accent wall. That way you will be able to avoid them overpowering your space.
Lighting
The importance of light on humans is well-founded so it is so wise to take it into account when decorating a bedroom. In fact lighting in a bedroom can be a secret weapon in unleashing its true potential.
What do we mean?
First, creating an environment that relaxes into an eventual slumber is the goal of any bedroom. Yet that can often be stalled by us bringing so many distractions into our rooms with us. Your phone, tablet, and other devices all work against our circadian rhythm, keeping us more alert than we would like.
While use of technology in our bedrooms is another subject, what we can do is all we can to work along with our intentions for the bedroom. Choose warm, indirect and soft lighting when deciding on bulbs. Table lamps and LED lighting strips can also create a cozy feel that makes us want to do nothing more than snuggle up in bed.
Having these added layers of light is a blessing on the eyes rather that being stuck to the usual ceiling fitting.
A last word shoud be given to natural lighting in a bedroom. As well as also having great health benefits, natural light is wonderful for making rooms seem larger. Try your best to harness it by using simple window treatments that best accentuate the light, such as blinds.
Add Texture
Once all the major pieces of furniture are decided on, you can think about the little touches that will make your room special. The most aesthetically pleasing way is by using texture.
These soft touches are the hallmarks of a comfy bedroom. We’re talking textured cushions, throws and our favourite, rugs.
As well as providing welcome sound absorbsion a good rug can help pull a room together, making it feel complete. Just remember, the type and size of a rug matters a lot. Bigger is better so don’t be shy to get one that goes under the bed and beyond, leaving some space between it and the wall.
You’ll be sure to appreciate it when you get up first thing in the morning!
