Below, we’ve compiled tips for re-doing your mobile home siding yourself. Read on to learn more and save money!
Painting Your Walls
Many people who want to remodel mobile home walls are looking to add a new coat of paint.
But did you know that painting walls in some mobile homes can be harder than doing regular walls?
That’s because older home manufacturers typically made walls with vinyl on gypsum. These walls have a glossy paper coating, and primer and paint do not stick to them as easily.
To paint vinyl on gypsum walls, clean your walls thoroughly and use very strong primers, brushes, and rollers. Do several coats.
Removing Your Walls
For some homeowners, removing their walls will be a key part of the remodeling process.
But how do you remove walls successfully?
Research Your Home
Before you start doing any serious work, you’re going to want to research your home and how it was constructed.
To do this, it is best to contact the company from who you purchased the home.
Ultimately, you’ll need to figure out which of the walls in your home are load-bearing.
In all structures, each wall serves a purpose. These purposes can be to seal off one room from another or close off the house itself.
However, some walls also serve another, critical purpose: they hold up your home.
So, prior to taking your walls off your house, learn which walls it’s okay to remove and which ones will cause irreparable damage.
Process of Removing Walls
Once you’re certain which walls bear weight, you’re ready to start removing them.
First, turn off your water and electricity so that you don’t accidentally have an emergency while working on the wall. Next, remove the strips covering where your wallboards meet. Remove any other wall work, such as baseboards.
Then, locate the studs and note how the electrical wires are situated in your wall.
Once you have determined there are no wires, you can start cutting through the wallboard. Start removing the wall bit-by-bit, and remove the top and bottom wall plates.
